Little Drummer Bek | Simple & Free DIY Toy Drum

Coffee Can Toy Drum DIY from Strong and Sweet

Lately I’ve had fun repurposing old items to make new things. My brother is a drummer and to our vacation earlier this month, he brought along a djembe. Bekah loved to crawl across the living room floor then pull herself up on the drum. She’d lift up her tiny arm, smack the drum, then get the cutest expression on her face, proud of all the noise she could make.

Since Bekah seems to like drumming and music these days, I thought it would be fun to make her a toy drum. I used an empty coffee container, scrap fabric, and a few other craft supplies I already had. The fun part about this project, is that you could really use any supplies and make your own variation. Different fabrics, paper, ribbons, and different kinds of containers – the possibilities are endless. I drew up some fun diagrams to show you what I chose to do…

here's the step by step guide... make it your own and have fun!

This toy drum is nothing fancy, but it sure was a fun, simple project. In fact, it took me like 10x longer to do that drawing than it did to make the real thing. I just couldn't resist drawing it out. It's pretty cute to watch Bekah use her tiny drum. She’ll bang on it a few times then go back to whatever else looks interesting. Which is usually the remote, a cell phone, or the cabinet that holds our pots and pans. Haha. It’s amazing how babies are so drawn to non-toys. I love that sweet girl – she’s so determined and curious.

What items do you have lying around that could be repurposed into something fun for your family? I’d love to read about your ideas. Feel free to leave a link to any recent projects in the comments below!

Love,

Bonnie

Celebrating Ellie! {a happy birthday post}

I love my siblings! I have three older sisters (named Kara, Ellie, and Annie) and one younger brother (named Aaron). We also have an "honorary brother" named HT - he lived with our fam for four years as a foreign exchange student. My siblings are each so different and funny, and whenever we're all together, it's my favorite time of year. We're all spread out these days. Kara lives in Missouri, Ellie in Arkansas, Annie travels frequently for work, I'm in Pennsylvania (so are our parents), Aaron lives in Virginia, and HT is in South Korea. It's tough for me to say 'bye' after we've been together - but what a crazy, wonderful blessing that God has led each of us to places we love and that we thrive in.

Today is my sister Ellie's birthday! Ellie is one of the most creative and caring people I've ever known. She is so compassionate and is insanely fun to be around. Our birthdays are only four days apart...plus 4 years :). Ellie lives about 1000 miles away so, although the three of us can't see her in person today, we're here in PA celebrating her.

Love you, Ellie! Thanks for being you!
