Lately I’ve had fun repurposing old items to make
new things. My brother is a drummer and to our vacation earlier this month, he brought
along a djembe. Bekah loved to crawl across the living room floor then pull herself
up on the drum. She’d lift up her tiny arm, smack the drum, then get the cutest
expression on her face, proud of all the noise she could make.
Since Bekah seems to like drumming and music these days, I
thought it would be fun to make her a toy drum. I used an empty coffee
container, scrap fabric, and a few other craft supplies I already had. The fun
part about this project, is that you could really use any supplies and make your own variation. Different fabrics, paper, ribbons, and different kinds of containers – the possibilities
are endless. I drew up some fun diagrams to show you what I chose to do…

This toy drum is nothing fancy, but it sure was a fun, simple project. In fact, it took me like 10x longer to do that drawing than it did to make the real thing. I just couldn't resist drawing it out. It's pretty cute to watch Bekah use her tiny drum. She’ll bang on it a few
times then go back to whatever else looks interesting. Which is usually the
remote, a cell phone, or the cabinet that holds our pots and pans. Haha. It’s
amazing how babies are so drawn to non-toys. I love that sweet girl – she’s so
determined and curious.
