Little Drummer Bek | Simple & Free DIY Toy Drum

Lately I’ve had fun repurposing old items to make new things. My brother is a drummer and to our vacation earlier this month, he brought along a djembe. Bekah loved to crawl across the living room floor then pull herself up on the drum. She’d lift up her tiny arm, smack the drum, then get the cutest expression on her face, proud of all the noise she could make.

Since Bekah seems to like drumming and music these days, I thought it would be fun to make her a toy drum. I used an empty coffee container, scrap fabric, and a few other craft supplies I already had. The fun part about this project, is that you could really use any supplies and make your own variation. Different fabrics, paper, ribbons, and different kinds of containers – the possibilities are endless. I drew up some fun diagrams to show you what I chose to do…

This toy drum is nothing fancy, but it sure was a fun, simple project. In fact, it took me like 10x longer to do that drawing than it did to make the real thing. I just couldn't resist drawing it out. It's pretty cute to watch Bekah use her tiny drum. She’ll bang on it a few times then go back to whatever else looks interesting. Which is usually the remote, a cell phone, or the cabinet that holds our pots and pans. Haha. It’s amazing how babies are so drawn to non-toys. I love that sweet girl – she’s so determined and curious.

A Homemade Story Book: Bekah's New Room

This semester I took a Children's Literature course and it was so fun! One of our projects was writing and illustrating our own children's book. I like to credit my Mom for creating a lasting love of cute drawings in me back in my elementary school days. She would often write little notes for my lunch and  include an illustration of me and her as well. She's the best. :) So I thought it would be fun to share with you the book I put together this semester for my class. This little book is inspired by our little girl on the way and future family adventures. Hope you're having a good week! Enjoy Bekah's New Room!

Welcome to Strong + Sweet! I am so happy you're here. 

Strong + Sweet grew in my heart as the result of a few good talks with God about encouragement. All the way back in June, I sat in the middle of my bed, asking God for a new platform to encourage young women...
and voila' here we are!

Strong + Sweet is a collaborative blog to encourage + empower. That means lots of amazing women, from all walks of life, will join me to talk about Jesus + encourage girls to walk in their God-promised destiny. Encourage, encourage, encourage... that's what we're all about here! Along the way, I'll share bits and pieces of my life as a wife, mama-to-be, and student, too. 

Today starts this brand new journey, a journey of encouragement, beauty, and sharing all parts of life together. Come back often and share your heart here.
